There were several excellent lessons that took place during that exchange. Yes, it definitey took guts on Christopher's part, and the coach displayed a tremendous amount of wisdom in the way he handled the situation. As Mr. Gandy implied, we won't get to tangibly see the results of that exchange, but I'd personally bet it will be significant, affectiing many lives and many generations. Kids usually sulk. But by making his feeling public and confronting his fear (there was always a danger of this episode backfiring on him - since we do not know how the coach would have reacted) he set a stage for coach John to get it all right.
